The best web sites in the seventh edition of the Bulgarian contest "BG Site 2005" were awarded at an official ceremony in Sofia.

A total of 279 professional and amateur Bulgarian sites in 16 different categories, including e-trade, education and science, finance, entertainment, news, were nominated. Winners include sites like Gladen.bg, Birata.com, Sladur.com, the site of the national Harry Potter fan club "Potter Mania" and others.

"Show Up" is the slogan of Bulgaria's top web site contest BG Site 2005. The motto was created by Bulgarian university students

A jury of 16 prominent web experts selected the winners in the different groups. Through an on-line voting the public was also allowed to chose its favourite at www.bgsite.org. A record number of people participated in this year's voting - some 11,746 people cast their vote for their favourite web sites.

I am really glad that there were very good contestants, Kostantin Pavlov, member of the jury, said, pointing out that Bulgaria's web is changing for better.

The official awarding ceremony took place November 2 and the winner received the traditional statuette of Ivo Arnaudov. The awarding ceremony was hosted by the TV anchors of the famous Bulgarian TV shows. Bulgarian pop singers Beloslava and Zhivko Petrov also participated in the ceremony.

The traditional web seminar is taking place November 3 - 4 and focuses on the efficiency of the on-line decisions and on Internet advertising.

For a second year in row the unique event is organized by the Bulgarian Web Association. The main partners in this year's BG Site events are leading PR company M3 Communications, Group, Inc. and PricewaterhouseCooper.

The event is recognized as country's most prestigious web site contest among the IT professionals and the Bulgarian community.
