Celebrations of Bulgaria's National Enlighteners Day gather speed across the country on November 1, when Bulgarians pay tribute to those involved with teaching, studying, culture or scientific works.

The national flag was hoisted during a ceremony in front of the President's office in downtown Sofia.

The falg also rose in over thousands of schools across the country within the "Let's Raise the Flag in School" campaign, which was held for the second year in a row.

A National Youth Convention mottoed "Keep the Bulgarian Spirit, Be Bulgarian!" was also held on the initiative and under the patronage of President Georgi Parvanov.

Bulgarians from Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary took part in the event.
