BANKS’ PROFIT UP IN NOVEMBER

Bulgarian banks’ net profit increased by BGN 16,8 M (EUR 8,6 M) in November in comparison with the previous month, bringing the cumulative profit for the first eleven months of 2001 to BGN 309,4 M, figures of the Bulgarian National Bank show. Bulbank, United Bulgarian Bank and State Savings Bank – three of Bulgaria’s biggest banks – generated BGN 9,5 M of the November rise in net profit and BGN 230,7 M of the total profit in the period January-November. Another six banks with assets ranging from BGN 500-800 M contributed BGN 5 M each to the November rise and a total of BGN 55,55 M into the bank system’s profit for the first eleven months in 2001. Deposits with local banks increased by BGN 104 M in November mainly because of euro-denominated accounts, opened before the introduction of the single currency. Deposits with local banks for the first eleven months of 2001 totaled BGN 9 BLN.
