The Security Council with the United Nations will decide on January 3 whether Bulgaria will chair the United Nations Sanctions against Libya Committee in 2002, the spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry Elena Poptodorova announced. She reiterated that she expected positive for Bulgaria decision. Starting from January 1, Bulgaria has replaced Ukraine as non-permanent member in the Security Council with UN. The former USSR republic used to chair the committee. Poptodorova explained that the decision whether Bulgaria will chair the UN Sanctions against Libya Committee should be taken with consensus. It is very important that the five permanent members of the Security Council show that they agree with the decision, Poptodorova pointed out.
