Science: Chimps Strangers to Altruism

Captive chimpanzees fall down on helpfulness in their social group, serearchers have found.

A team at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), ran on captive chimpanzees tests in which they obtained a food reward.

The animals had two rewarding options - one allowing a chimp to serve food only to itself, and the second securing the same for a second chimpanzee as well.

Although the chimps had been living together for more than 15 years, most of them chose the first option, scientists have disclosed, cited by the BBC.
