GORNA ARDA CASCADE CONSTRUCTION TO START IN 2002

Gorna Arda Cascade construction will begin in 2002, Kostadin Paskalev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development, said. The upcoming Bulgarian –Turkish summit on the project’s future is scheduled for January. At the meeting Bulgaria will propose that the building of Maritsa motorway be taken off the agreement. The recently established Energy Ministry will make an assessment of the project’s assets. According to Minister Paskalev the Ministry will propose a concept for the reconstruction of the whole water sector in Bulgaria. It will envisage a new price list according to which the calculation will be based on objective criteria. A memorandum for cooperation with the Italian company “N L Hydro” on Gorna Arda project is expected to be signed till the end of January 2002.
