Volunteers to Clean Bulgarian Hills

Society | October 22, 2005, Saturday // 00:00

Volunteers will gather to clean up three hills in Bulgaria's city of Plovdiv during the initiative "Donate an hour to voluntary service".

The initiative is part of the yearly program called "Donate an hour" that Plovdiv partakes in. It will be conducted during the UN-appointed day of the volunteer - December 5.

The cleaning will be conducted by the National Alliance for Volunteer Work and Ecology direction of the Plovdiv municipality. Their idea is to attract as many people as possible to giving up some of their free time for a cause that is important to society.

Plovdiv is known as the city of hills, for in the distant past the city was situated on seven hills: Taxim, Nebet, Jambaz, Sahat, Jendem, Bunarjik. and Markovo Tepe. The last one has nowadays subsided completely under the pavement of modern Plovdiv.
