Children and teenagers in Sofia will be encouraged to read American books, with the opening of a special press corner.

America's first lady Laura Bush has already made the first donation of books. She handed them to Bulgaria's Zorka Parvanova, wife of the President Georgi Parvanov, during an official visit to the White House.

The rest of the books and films will be donated by the US Embassy to the Sofia Municipal Library.

Its American reading corner for children aged 5-16 should open around Christmas.
