Egmont Bulgaria will celebrate more than 14 years and 500 issues of the Bulgarian Mickey Mouse comic strip magazine for children on Saturday.
The publishers are organizing a party for children and parents in Sofia, with many surprises, screenings of old Walt Disney movies and performances by local stars.
To celebrate issue 500 that came out September 26, Pia Knudsen, Director of Disney Publishing for Eastern Europe and Georgi Alexandrov, CEO of Egmont Bulgaria, cut a giant cake and treated children and journalists at a press conference. Dressed in his stylish black-smoking-over-red-trousers suite, garnered with a yellow bow tie Mickey himself joined the celebration, to everybody's delight.
Throughout the years, Mickey Mouse magazine managed to capture the hearts of many Bulgarian children with the thrilling stories of the adventures of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and their many infamous friends - Goofy, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and last, but by far not least - Uncle Scrooge.
Egmont Bulgaria is an affiliate of Swedish publisher Egmont and it started its business at the Balkan country on April 24, 1991 with the pilot edition of Mickey Mickey mouse magazine. It started as a bimonthly publication and grew until reaching its five-hundredth issue as the first (and so far unchallenged) weekly Bulgarian magazine for children.
The company is also the exclusive publisher of the famous Harry Potter books for Bulgaria.
The exclusive cooperation between Egmont and Walt Disney started after World War 2, and has grown until present days when more than 12 M people read the magazines in 27 languages, across 30 countries in the world.
