BULGARIAN MADE CIGARETTES UP WITH 42%, FOREIGN BRANDS WITH 31%

Bulgarian made cigarettes to go up with 42% on average and the foreign made brands to go up with 31%, the Cabinet decreed on December 26. The cigarettes with the old duty excise stamps will be sold at the old prices till the end of February, 2002. “Printing of the new excise duty stamps has already began,” Nikolay Vassilev, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister announced. In January, the cigarettes with the new duty stamps will appear on the market. According to Vassilev, the increase in the prices is due to the higher price of the tobacco and the stabilization of “Bulgartabac Holding.”
