For the first time ever, Bulgaria born conceptual artist Christo will show 70 of his works in his home country according to reports.

The exhibition, starting early November will be held in Sofia, in gallery "Academy" with the National Art Academy, "24 Hours" daily newspaper claims.

Christo is alumnus of the academy that still keeps some of his student-time sketches. He accepted the invitation by dean Bojidar Yonov, and agreed to help with the renovation of the school's building.

Art connoisseurs believe that Christo's reasons for accepting are sentimental, as he has many times declined exhibiting in Bulgaria, due to the ineptitude of the market.

Christo announced that the profit from selling his posters during the exhibition would go for the renovation. His works have already arrived in Bulgaria, each one bearing it's author's signature.

As a special treat Christo and his wife - Jeanne-Claude offered that the poster for the exhibition features a sketch of their new project - "Over the River". The extravagant couple intends to hang huge canvases over the Arkansas River in the state of Colorado, US. The canvases should follow the river's path and create an aesthetic flow of light winding through bridges, rocks, and trees. The project will cost USD 21 M, and the couple spent nine years planning it.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who is French, are known for their large-scale public art pieces. They surrounded 11 islands in Miami with pink woven fabric in 1982, wrapped silver fabric around the German Reichstag in 1995 and opened 3,100 umbrellas in Japan and California in 1991.
