DISCO CLUBS IN SOFIA CLOSED DOWN AFTER POLICE CHECK-UPS

Politics | December 24, 2001, Monday // 00:00

Four disco clubs in the capital Sofia were sealed after inspections of the authorities. Inspections of more than 170 places of entertainment were conducted during the night. Heavy violations of safety and fire-precaution measures rules were found in many of the clubs. The inspections come after Interior Minister Petkanov’s order of December 22, following the tragic event at a Sofia disco club on December 21 when seven children were killed. A procedure for closing the disco club has already been initiated. Similar inspections were organized in many Bulgarian cities, among them Stara Zagora, Montana, Razgrad, Veliko Turnovo, Pleven, Burgas, Gabrovo, Silistra. Preliminary results show that many disco clubs failed to meet the requirements for normal operation of entertainment places.
