The hearing of the case against the six Bulgarian medics charged with intentionally infecting 393 Libyan children with HIV was postponed again. It took only one minute for the Libyan People's Court decision to be announced. The next hearing was scheduled for February 17, 2002. The court motivated its decision by the need to continue the investigation into the case. Vladimir Sheytanov, the Bulgarian lawyer of the medics, said the decision left him with mixed feelings, but it was certainly a bad outcome given the health condition of the defendants. Foreign Minister Passy, who is on an official visit to Libya, is to meet EU states and EU candidate countries ambassadors, who attended the hearing. Bulgarians pinned their hopes on December 22 when the final verdict was expected to be announced.
