Recent findings in Bulgaria prove to be a major challenge for the Priam's treasure, the Athens' newspaper Ta Nea reported.

In an article called "Bulgaria- history written in gold" the newspaper reports for the 15,000 golden pieces, dated back to the 2,300 B.C., recently found in the Bulgarian village of Dubene.

An extraordinary finding, which challenges the treasure of Priam found in the Troy and writes a new page in the early history of the Southeastern Balkans, the newspaper said.

The newspaper also tells the story that led to the beginning of the excavations at the Dubene village. Two young Bulgarian archaeologists stopped at the village and saw a lady with an ancient golden necklace, which she said her husband found at the field.

The excavations, which are still on, discovered that the golden necklace came from the graves of at least three Thracian rulers, who had lived before 4,300 years or are with 180 years older that the Priam treasure.

The discovery is evidence that the ancient history of Bulgaria has been written with gold, as the processing of the valuable material was first launched there some 6,700 years ago, the Te Nea wrote.
