Popular Bulgarian mime artist Alexander Iliev is set to upbeat his own Guinness record by staging a 26-hour performance.

The mime marathon includes hundreds of different pantomime pieces, dances of Eastern European countries, clown sketches, circus acts and variety tricks, as well as dances with original national masks from the repertoire of the greatest mime masters in the world.

This year Iliev's performance takes place in the Albena resort, on the Black Sea coast, and is scheduled to end at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

In 2001 he performed for 24 hours on an amphitheatric stage in the Golden Sands resort. Yet, his Guinness records has dates far back in time, starting in 1992 and once again in 1994 for his non-stop mime show for 24 and 25 hours.

In 1993 the Guinness Book of World Records wrote down Iliev's record as part of the Everest marathon, and three years later for the highest concert ever organised in the world. He then performed at an altitude of 5,350 m.

"During marathons of this kind, the mime artist loses over 10 kg of own weight," Iliev told Bulgarian National Television (BNT). "He walks more than 140 miles on stage and drinks more than 40 litres of water," he added.

The performer is allowed to have a one-minute break every hour.
