Volen Siderov: Statesmen Should Have Bulgarian Names

Novinite Insider » INTERVIEW | August 12, 2005, Friday // 00:00

Volen Siderov is the leader of ultra-nationalist coalition "Attack," a first-timer in Parliament. Siderov has been a household name in journalism, but often faced criticism for his racist-like views. His party came out fourth in election results in June. "Attack" had 20 Parliamentary seats, later reduced to 17 because three members were dismissed as "betrayers."

Mr Siderov answered questions of SNA Deputy Editor-in-Chief Petya Bondokova

Q: Mr Siderov, is there another alternative to the four-party coalition, except for early elections?

A: No. Early elections would be the most honest decision. The most honest attitude towards voters.

It is obvious that this Parliament cannot elect a responsible government, which would not include people who have been pillaging the state. Those people are the Simeon II National Movement and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

At the moment all combinations include these two parties - the same that have been ruling so far.

In this case, why did the Socialist Party had to fight for votes in the elections? Why did the SP say that they would appoint investigation into Simeon's estates? Now they are planning to join him in a political council.

This is hypocrisy. It will reduce people's trust in the SP.

Q: Would early elections give you a better chance to enter the next government?

A: Early elections will reallocate the vote of Bulgarian people. They have already seen who fights for what. People will vote in a way so that a responsible government can be formed. The persons in this government will have Bulgarian names, and will work to defend the interests of the Bulgarian nation.

Those will not be brokers, or suspicious middlemen that work for the interests of outsiders.

Q: So you expect stronger support for "Attack" in case of early elections?

A: Early elections will help to sweep away the current political elite of corrupt people, people who have proven to work for foreign interests.

This clean-up could only be done through elections.

Over the last 45 days, people saw who fights for what. They saw that parties promise one thing and then act in a completely different way. They saw that organizations that label themselves as rightist are ready to embrace the Socialist Party. Organizations who claim to be patriotic are ready to accept the MRF.

People have realized these things and will vote for the sake of chasing away such rogue agents.
