Sofia Readies for Handing of 3rd Mandate

Bulgaria's Parliamentary forces will meet the President Friday to start the third government-forming effort.

The delegates will discuss with Georgi Parvanov the expected handing of the exploratory mandate to yet another bearer.

Bulgaria's Socialist Party failed to form a government, and the next rightful mandate-bearer, the King's Party, decided to let the mandate pass on.

But both the Socialists and the centrist Simeon II National Movement (SIINM) are expected to participate the coalition that will eventually take up the mandate now.

They are likely to join forces with Turks-dominated Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and the rightist coalition Bulgarian national Union (BNU).

SIINM and the Socialists have enough Parliamentary seats to form a coalition on their own, but more partners would guarantee stronger Parliamentary support and a more stable government.

A wider ruling coalition would also be a positive sign to Bulgaria's international partners, SIINM Secretary Vesselin Bliznakov told the bTV channel Friday.
