ZEEVI EXTENDS CLAIM AGAINST BALKAN AIRLINES TO USD 260 M

Israeli businessman Gad Zeevi, owner of 75% of Bulgaria’s flag carrier Balkan Airlines, has added another USD 30 M to his earlier USD 230 M claim against Bulgaria’s Privatization Agency (PA), Dnevnik Daily reported, citing insiders. Zeevi informed the Bulgarian authorities that with the new claim he filed in a Paris-based court he seeks compensation for damages caused to him by an insolvency ruling against the carrier issued by Sofia court earlier this year. Apostol Apostolov, PA head, declined to comment, but added that the Cabinet is not worried by Zeevi’s new claim. In February Gad Zeevi brought a suit for USD 230 M against the PA for breaching the privatisation contract. Two months ago the Sofia District Court took Zeevi off the list of the airline’s creditors, by declining to acknowledge BGN 48 M of Balkan debt allegedly owed to two companies, owned by Zeevi.
