Science: Monstrous Moon Threatens Bulgarians' Nerves

Society | July 22, 2005, Friday // 00:00

Moon is to reach its closest point to Earth in years on Thursday evening, scientists announced.

This will happen at exactly 22.46 p.m. Bulgarian time, when the Bulgarians will be able to observe the biggest moon for the past two decades, Vassil Umlenski from the Astronomy Insitute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said.

The phenomenon coincides with the moon's full phase, which many fear could lead to certain discomfort such as headache, nervousness or insomnia.

There is an increased earthquake risk on Friday evening too, due to moon's strong influence on sea tides, seismologists say, quoted by Standard daily.
