Today, at its 44th Congress, the Bulgarian Socialist Party is expected to elect its new leader. His name will be most probably announced at around 7 pm today. In his address to the Congress Parvanov, President Elect and current Socialist leader called for further rejuvenation and reformation of the party. Parvanov said during the week that he will personally nominate Sergey Stanishev – current socialist party council secretary for the position. A considerable majority of the party’s leaders also stand behind Stanishev's candidature. Sergey Stanishev, 35, commented for the media that although many claim that he is too young, he has considered the serious responsibility he is to undertake in case that he is elected and will manage the hard task. Parvanov's current deputy Rumen Ovcharov said that he will still apply for the position even though Parvanov did not stand behind his candidature. Rumen Ovcharov, Deputy chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), said that even if he is not elected leader of the party he will not “seek political realization” outside it.
