FEEL THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT IN SOFIA

Ten days before Christmas, one can hardly feel the Christmas spirit in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. Very few of the main Sofia streets are decorated and that can hardly be noticed during the evenings. The window shops, the bazaars and the increasing number of stands with small Christmas gifts on the streets are the only visible sign for the coming Christmas holidays.

If one wants to feel the Christmas spirit, though, one can go to the main building of the National Palace of Culture where Christmas songs play, Santa welcomes the visitors, charity actions are launched and one can choose presents for his/her relatives and friends.

In Hall 6, in a Christmas bazaar especially for kids, a person can fully sense the holidays’ mood. The bazaar which will be closed on December 16 is called “Kids’ Heaven” not only because all kinds of Bulgarian goods for children are presented but also because competitions like “Miss and Mister “Kids’ Heaven,” “Funniest Photos” and “Best Drawing” as well as shows and discotheques are organized for the youngest. Big prizes are envisaged for the kids such as a trip to Disneyland Paris, bikes, cameras, etc. A Family Counselor Cabinet is opened as part of the “Kids’ Heaven” event. There, parents can enquire about their children’s problems and be advised on anything related to them. The foundations “13 Centuries Bulgaria,” “National Civic Forum” and “Assistance for Charity in Bulgaria” are among the co-organizers of the event. In the Christmas spirit, visitors can leave clothes and toys for children who live in orphanages and assist for the funding of urgent operations for children with serious diseases.
