The mobile phone bills in Bulgaria are among the most expensive in Europe, according to a survey, presented at a Communications Regulation Commission forum.

The average month mobile phone bill Bulgarians pay is EUR 16.9 for approximately 25-minute duration calls and 30 text messages (SMS). The calls are 42% to other mobile phones and 58% to fixed lines.

The average bill is estimated upon prices of Bulgaria's Mtel operator. A Globul subscriber would pay EUR 12.1 for the same amount of phone calls and SMS, experts said.

Western and Central Europeans would pay between EUR 8.5 and 26.5 for the same services. The cheapest mobile phone calls are in Denmark, while the most expensive are in Poland.

If you call from a mobile to stationary phone in Bulgaria you will have to pay BGN 0.55 per minute, which is Europe's highest price for this service.

The expensive phone bills have led to a jump in the number of text messages, the survey shows.
