TEXTILE-PRODUCERS SEEK ANTI-DUMPING IMPORT DUTIES

Textile producers in Bulgaria insisted on amendments that would ensure better protection against imports of low-quality produce at dumping prices, mainly from neighbouring Turkey, Denvnik Daily reported. According to Robert Alexandriiski, head of the Association of Garments and Textile Producers, the sector also is desperate for a development strategy so that the current foreign interest is properly used and unemployment is reduced. Textile exports for the first two quarters marked a 30% rise over 200. They are expected to reach USD 1 BLN for the whole 2001. Exports of garments and textile for 2000 formed about 17% of Bulgaria’s total exports, which is BGN 1,72 BLN, figures of the National Statistics Institute show.
