The Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone has been arrested on drink-driving and drug charges at a police checkpoint in Beverly Hills.

Officers arrested Stone, 58, at a checkpoint on Sunset Boulevard near the border of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, a police spokesman said.

Stone, who won best director Oscars for Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July, was released on Saturday morning after posting bail of USD 15,000.

Police did not release details of an intoxication test carried out on Stone or the type of drugs alleged to be in his possession.

In 2006 Stone is coming to Bulgaria to shoot his new film Constantine. In the end of April the famous film director paid a surprising visit to the country.

He visited the Film Center Boyana and other places suitable for film shots.

During his one-day stay Stone met Bulgaria's president Georgi Parvanov.
