The 23rd International Book Fair is currently being held at hall 3 of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. At the 180 stands 150 Bulgarian publishers are presented as well as 500 publishing houses from foreign countries such as France Germany and Great Britain, but also from Russia and the USA. The Sofia international Book Fair is held every two years and is a major feature of the Bulgarian publishing calendar. The Fair is interesting for the general public as well as for the professionals doing business. The Book Fair is accompanied by a cultural programme as Director of the fair, Raymond Wagenstein, explained. “It’s s not just a book fair. It’s a cultural event. We have got readings, presentations, and book reviews. And several writers amongst them German and French writers will read from their own work. Several poets will be read their poems, accompanied by guitar music and singing,” Wagenstein said. The 1999 Fair was a huge success and Wagenstein expects a total of 80.000 visitors for this year’s Fair. The fair started on December 11 and will last till December 15. The working hours of the fair are from 10 am to 7 pm.
