The violin Bulgarian virtuoso Vasko Vassilev earned fame with in Covent Garden Hall will change its owner going to the winner of a special contest to be held on Monday.

The ancient instrument is part of the 13-century Bulgarian Fund and was awarded to Vassilev in 1988 for his outstanding talent.

Next week the string master will stage three concerts in various towns of Bulgaria.

Bulgaria's "wundekind of the violin" trained at the prestigious Central School of Music in Moscow, and achieved early international success by winning top prizes at the Jacques Thibaud Competition, the Carl Flesch Competition and the Paganini International Competition in two successive years between the ages of 17 and 19.
