Three of Bulgaria’s debt-ridden chemical fertilizer plants may stop production because of the high prices of natural gas, the Association of Fertilizer producers announced. The plants are supplied with gas by state monopolist Bulgargas. Chimko, Neochim and Agroplichim produce ammonia and phosphate-based fertilizers. Gas prices in Bulgaria are about BGN 300 per 1,000 cubic meters, while in Ukraine, Romania and Russia they range between USD 11 and USD 30. According to representatives of the three plants the introduction of lower gas prices for big consumers; gas market liberalization and temporary import duties could be a possible relief.
