NUCLEAR POWER PLANT TO GET FRESH FUEL BY SEA

Business | December 10, 2001, Monday // 00:00

A ship carrying fresh nuclear fuel for Kozloduy nuclear power plant arrived at the port of Varna, Dnevnik Daily reported, citing insiders. From the port the fuel will be carried into the plant. This is the first time that fuel from Russia for Kozloduy has been partly transported by sea. The route is cheaper and shorter in comparison with the ones via Ukraine and Moldova, experts said. The power plant Kozloduy said that due to expenses for the transport of spent nuclear fuel back to Russia the net profit is expected to fall to BGN 12 M from some BGN 50 M in 2000. The net profit in 2000 was largely due to failure to send spent fuel to Russia after the deal was cancelled under pressure form the Russian branch of Greenpeace.
