The State Railways Company employees are ready to go on strike before Christmas, Plamen Dimitrov, deputy chairman of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB), said on December 9. Unpaid salaries were once again cited as the reason for the strike, which will copy the French model – some of the trains will continue to transport passengers. In a separate development in connection with the announcement of a dramatic rise in the price of electricity for domestic purposes, they warned they will appeal to the Supreme Administrative Court every decree of the Cabinet on a rise in the tariffs. On December 5 the Supreme Administrative Court revoked the 10% rise of heating and electricity prices. The Court’s decision is expected to be promulgated in the State Gazette on December 11. This is when the meeting of the Trilateral Cooperation Council is scheduled to take place. Representatives of CITUB declared they are not going to the meeting. Trade Union “Podkrepa” said they will go but won’t sign the agreement.
