America's Olympic medalists will wrestle for world titles after advancing to the finals Sunday, the last day of the Greco-Roman Wrestling World Championships. Olympic champion Rulon Gardner faces Hungarian Mihaly Deak-Bardos, the current European champion, for the gold at 130 kilograms (286 pounds).

At 85 kilograms (187 1/4 pounds), Matt Lindland will take on Georgian Mukhran Vakhtangadze. Lindland won silver at the Sydney Olympics and Vakhtangadze the bronze.

Gardner reached the final after defeating Bulgaria's Serguey Moreyko 3-0, but struggled in his quarterfinal bout against Russia's Yuri Patrikeev. He recovered from a three-point deficit to win 4-3 in 5:00 after pinning the Russian.

In his 85-kilogram match, Matt Lindland defeated Russian Alexandre Mentshikov, scoring four points in the last seconds of regulation time and winning his match 6-2.

Sydney silver medalist Sandor Bardosi of Hungary and 1999 World Champion Luis Mendez of Cuba were both eliminated in the 85-kilogram quarterfinals.

The 69-kilogram (152-pound) final will pit two-time Olympic gold medalist Filiberto Azcuy of Cuba against Russia's Alexei Gloushkov. Ukraine's Rustam Adzhy will wrestle Jimmy Samuelson of Sweden for the bronze.

The championships are being held at Demetrios Tophalos stadium in the port of Patras, 210 kilometers (130 miles) west of Athens.

The event had been planned for New York's Madison Square Garden in September but was postponed and moved after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Bulgaria hosted the freestyle events last month.
