Bulgaria’s relations with Macedonia are very good, even excellent, especially given the prospect of Bulgaria’s invitation from NATO in 2002, Alexander Yordanov, the Bulgarian Ambassador in Skopje, says in a long interview for the Macedonian newspaper Nova Macedonia in its issue of December 8.

The Bulgarian Ambassador points to the fact that nearly one third of the agreements the two countries signed in the last years are still to be ratified by the Macedonian Parliament.

“When I say that our opinions do not diverge on any issues I don’t mean that there is nothing more we can do.” Among the urgent problems the countries face he points the building of a modern transborder structure and oil pipeline, as well as the strengthening of the political and economic relations between the two countries.

According to Ambassador Yordanov the recent increase in Macedonian nationals’ applications for Bulgarian citizenship is a private issue on which Bulgaria can express no political stand.
