PASSED AMENDMENT TO VAT ACT TO BE CORRECTED SOON

According to the amendments to the Value Added Tax that the Parliament adopted on December 7 the VAT credit reimbursement term is extended to 6 month, while it had to be reduced to 3 months. Under the current act VAT credit is paid back in 45 days after a 4-month period expires. Tax experts assured that the mistake will be corrected by the Regulations on the VAT Act implementation. 10% of the companies’ profit will be given away as donations. If the money is donated to hospitals and schools, the sum will be considered as expenditures. A total of BGN 594 M of state subsidies will be released to the municipalities in 2002, while some of them will have to make deposits with the budget of about BGN 161, 8 M. According to MPs the expected economic growth will lead to tax revenues of about BGN 705 M. Kiril Ananiev, Deputy Finance Minister commented that in 2001 the profit tax will be exceeded mainly because of the sale of Bulbank.
