Bulgaria Joins French Culture's Int'l Celebrations

Events all over the world marked Sunday the International Day of Francophonie - March 20.

As an official member of the International Francophone Organisation (OIF), Bulgaria also joins the international celebrations.

A rich program of events, including concerts, exhibitions, sport contests, lectures and conferences all across the country will mark the day of Francophonie in the next days.

Movie fans will be able to enjoy French-language masterpieces within the week of French cinema in Sofia movie theatres.

The events are organized by Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Youth and Sports and French Embassy in Sofia.

The number of francophones nowadays amounts to 175 million with approximately 128 million worldwide speaking French as their primary language.

A total of 28 countries worlwide have French as an official language, the only language other than English to be spoken on five continents.
