Politics | December 5, 2001, Wednesday // 00:00

The Council on Electronic Media decided on December 5 to dismiss Lilyana Popova from the position Bulgarian National Television Director with five votes in favor, three votes against and one abstained. The decision was taken in light of Popova’s qualifications incomplience with the amendments to the Radio and Television Act. Popova announced that she will appeal. According to her, the dismissal is a " political order of the Parliament majority, "taking into consideration the fact that only the parliamentary quota in the Council voted for that decision. The Council on Electronic Media elected Kiril Gotsev to be interim director of the National Television. A new managing body is to be appointed by 14 days. In three months a new Director of the Bulgarian National Television has to be appointed.
