Bulgaria Launches EU Countdown

Society | March 1, 2005, Tuesday // 00:00

A second clock that will count the remaining days to Bulgaria's entry into the European Union was inaugurated Tuesday at central Sofia Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd.

The clock was inaugurated just a few days after Bulgaria's ruling Simeon II National Movement presented its special timepiece that is already counting the days to the beginning of Bulgaria's EU future.

The clocks will tick together for almost 670 days, as Bulgaria hopes to join the bloc in the beginning of 2007. Before that, the country should sign a common accession treaty with its neighbour on the north, Romania.
