Bulgaria Moves to Confiscate Property of Crime Bosses

Bulgaria's prosecution has started legal proceedings for forfeiting the property of two notorious underworld leaders.

The heirs of Boyan Petrakiev a.k.a Barona and of late Konstantin Dimitrov dubbed Samokovetsa could be deprived of several real estates.

Prosecutors have put a claim on Dimitrov's apartments in Sofia, Varna and Samokov, as well as his villa in the posh winter resort of Borovets. Petrakiev will have to fight for keeping his two apartments in Lozenets, one of Sofia's central districts.

Samokovetsa's pricey properties have been inherited by his wife and baby son, after he was gunned down in Amsterdam at the end of 2003. Despite insisting that he had made a fortune on potato trading, Dimitrov was thought to be one of the key drug contraband figures in Bulgaria.

Barona has been on trial several times for robberies and kidnappings.
