FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT FOR FIRST 3QS DOWN

Business | December 3, 2001, Monday // 00:00

Foreign Direct investment in Bulgarian for the first three quarters in Bulgaria totaled USD 486,2 M., figures of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) show. This is down by USD 21,5 M in comparison with the same period last year. Foreign direct investments for the third quarter amounted to USD 108,9 M, down by more than 50% in comparison with last year. According to BNB officials the decrease would have been greater should the BNB not changed the method of including in its balance the proceeds from the sale of the second GSM operator license. In the opinion of analysts the decrease was caused by the global slowdown and the investors’ uncertainty as to the new cabinet’s tax and economic policy.
