It all starts with Bulgarian National Radio, read the motto of the lavish concert BNR staged on the eve of its 70th anniversary.

President Georgi Parvanov, Parliamentary Speaker Ognyan Gerdzhikov, many officials, current and former radio anchors and employees relished in the performances of prominent Bulgarian actors, singers, ballet dancers and musicians.

The ceremony was pinnacled by the awarding ceremony of giving out the annual Sirak Skitnik prizes, named after the radio's first director.

BNR has radio and online broadcasted emissions in 11 languages, including Bulgarian, Russian, English, German, French, Spanish, Serbian, Greek, Albanian, Turkish and Arabic.

The radio was granted national status on January 25, 1935, with a decree of King Boris III. This was actually the start of radio broadcasting in this country.
