Over 180 films will participate in the ninth edition of the traditional Sofia International Film Festival (Sofia IFF), starting March 4 to end March 13, the festival's Director Stefan Kitanov announced Tuesday at a press conference.
Films from all over the world will be shown in different sections, including the traditional International competition, Bulgarian feature films, Balkan films showcase, European screen, World screen, Bulgarian shorts, documentaries, and retrospectives and tribute.
The best films in the different categories will be chosen as usual by an international jury, Kitanov said.
The accent of this year fest will be Argentina's and Norway's cinema.
Among the special guests of the fest will be the directors Teo Angelopulos (Greece), Mika Kaurismaki (Finland), Srdjan Dragojevic (Serbia and Monte Negro) and many others.
For the last years the fest has grown into one of the major film events of Central-East Europe attracting audience from all European countries.
Sofia IFF is a member of European Coordination of Film Festivals and the Association of the Festivals in Central and Eastern Europe.
