TRANSPORT MINISTRY WILL PROPOSE GSM LISENSING TO BE CHANGED

Business | November 29, 2001, Thursday // 00:00

The Ministry of Transport and Communications is to make a proposal to the Cabinet on setting an annual license fee for GSM operators in proportion to the market share held by the operator. Now the license fee is fixed in proportion to the frequencies of the operator. New licensing fees were approved by the Cabinet on November 22 in the absence of Plamen Petrov, Transport and Communications Minister. The new tariffs lowered the fee from the current BGN 9 to BGN 7,3 per mHz. Under the new tariffs MobilTel, Bulgaria’s first GSM operator, will pay the largest fee since it holds the biggest market share. According to Minister Petrov the recently approved new tariffs will hinder the sale of the state-owned monopolist Telecommunications Company because of the high license.
