BULGARIA OPENED THREE MORE CHAPTERS FROM EU ACCESSION NEGOTIATIONS

Bulgaria opened three new chapters from its European Union accession negotiations on November 28. The chapters that were opened include energy, regional policy, financial and budgetary provisions. The chapter on freedom to provide services was closed. Bulgaria and the EU have discussed so far twenty-six chapters, thirteen of these are closed. Bulgaria insists on being allowed transitional periods for all chapters opened on November 28. For the adaptation of the energy sector, Bulgaria demanded to be given time until December 31, 2012. Concerning the financial and budgetary provisions, the Bulgarian side asked for a transitional period during which its contribution to the EU budget will be fixed in the form of percentage points of GDP.
