Bulgaria Reveals Secrets of Roman Tombs

Society | December 14, 2004, Tuesday // 00:00

Two stone tombs from the Roman city of Bizone were discovered by Bulgarian archaeologists from the seaside town of Kavarna.

The tombs were found during excavation works in the east slopes of the Kavarna bay and they were dated back to II-III century. There were four skeletons in the first tomb and one in the second.

Asen Salikin, director of the Kavarna museum, commented that the fact that only 5 ceramic lamps, 3 glass pots and 2 Roman coins indicate that the people buried in these tombs were not rich.

Salikin also said that the tombs might have been looted as the skeletons of the Romans were mixed and some of the pots were broken.
