Bulgaria to Join Eurovision in Kiev 2005

Bulgaria will participate for the first time ever in the European contest Eurovision after the state Bulgarian National Television (BNT) agreed to pay the broadcast fee of EUR 30,000 Swiss francs.

The next stage-breaking musical event of Europe will take place in Kiev in award of this year's winner Ruslana of Ukraine.

The BNT announced Thursday that applications for singing at Eurovision can be submitted till January 15. The songs must comply with several requirements, such as not being commercially distributed or publicly performed prior to October 1, 2004; having maximum length of three minute; and being performed by not more than six persons in a group.

The song can be of either Bulgarian, or other language text.

The jury shall shortlist the best 12 songs and the final performance to represent Bulgaria in Kiev next year will be decided through the vote of the BNT audience at a gala concert on February 12.

The Bulgarian song will compete in Eurovision's semifinals with performances of another 41 countries, but only ten will be shortlisted to sing on the May 21 finals.
