Sofia Looks to Banging Rock Gala

Society | December 2, 2004, Thursday // 00:00

Some of Bulgaria's milestone rock bands and musicians will stage together a rackety performance in Sofia this month.

The event will mark 50 years since Bill Haley put out his "Rock Around The Clock" and laid the foundations of modern rock music.

Bulgaria's legendary Shturtsite, Kontrol, Ahat, Signal, Tangra, Vassko "Krupkata" ("The Patch") and Stanley will storm the stage of the National Palace of Culture on December 13, and play many of Bulgaria's most memorable rock classics.

The idea for the gala came from the local Paralely weekly magazine, published by the Bulgarian News Agency BTA.

The mag has also made a Top 50 chart of the most popular rock evergreens by Bulgarian bands. Tens of music journalists, publishers and program directors at radio stations have voted for their favourite tracks.
