Grape harvest for industrial purposes in 2001 fell to 200,000 tons according to preliminary data of the Bulgarian Vine and Wine Chamber. This is down by 380,000 tons in comparison with 2000. Experts warn that the figure can slide further down because of the drought and the negligible funds of the producers. Grape harvest for wine production and home consumption in 2001 marked a 15% decrease. It is set at 500,000 tons by the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry.
