UK Olympic Chief: Slavkov's Fate Depends on Appearance in Singapore Craig Reedie

Craig Reedie is a member of the International Olympic Committee, and the Chairman of the British Olympic Association (BOA). He belongs to the Marketing, Coordination Commission Athens 2004, Coordination Commission Beijing 2008. His profession is Independent Financial Advisor.

Mr Reedie answered questions of Sofia News Agency Editor-in-Chief Milena Hristova

Q: How would you comment the decision of the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee to endorse the recommendation from the Ethics Commission that Ivan Slavkov, the Bulgarian IOC member, be expelled?

A: The decision of the IOC Executive Board is to place a resolution on the agenda for the Session in Singapore. At that time the members will be given information, which will allow them to reach their own decision. Until that time I cannot comment.

Q: Do you think the definitive expulsion of Bulgaria's International Olympic Committee member Ivan Slavkov is already inevitable?

A: My understanding is that Mr. Slavkov will be entitled to appear before the Session in Singapore. Once again, any prior speculation is unhelpful.

Q: Should Ivan Slavkov give up his Bulgarian posts as head of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and head of the Bulgarian Football Association?

A: This must be a personal decision for Mr. Slavkov and will presumably depend on his decision to appear before the IOC Session in Singapore.

Q: How would you comment the case that was instituted last week in Bulgaria against the BBC on abetment of corruption charges over the "Buying the Games" documentary?

A: I am not familiar with the case in Bulgaria against the BBC. The journalistic methods used are not illegal in UK although they are not universally popular.

Q: Do you share fears that the timing of IOC regular meeting in Singapore could see the concerns about the BBC programme affect the vote?

A: The programme has nothing to do with London 2012 and this was acknowledged in the programme itself. The Bid is progressing well.
