PM: EC TO ALLOW POLITICAL ACCESSION OF BULGARIA AND ROMANIA

The Bulgarian Prime Minister Saxe-Coburg said that the European Commission should allow to Romania and Bulgaria to be integrated “ politically” before their economic integration. He said that in his address to the prime ministers of the member states of the Central European Initiative in Trieste. Saxe-Coburg pointed out that his proposal for political integration represents new tactics and program for two-stage accession of the two countries. In Trieste, Prime Minister Saxe-Coburg called for a long-term strategy for the rehabilitation and economic development of South Eastern Europe. “It is impossible that Romania and Bulgaria join the Union in 2004, Enlargement European Commissioner Gunter Verheugen said. He commented on the statement of the French Foreign Minister Vedrine who said that in case that Bulgaria and Romania are left out, they will be destabilized.
