Elena Poptodorova, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, expressed satisfaction with president-elect Georgi Parvanov’s statements, confirming Bulgaria’s accession to the European Union and NATO as top priorities in Bulgaria’s foreign policy. According to Poptodorova Bulgaria must follow consistently its earlier foreign policy and maintain its good relations with Russia. She underscored that the Cabinet, the Interior Ministry and Georgi Parvanov have made it clear that the negotiations schemes for NATO and EU entry must not be changed. As for Bulgaria’s relations with Libya Elena Poptodorova expressed the opinion that they should be continued in the context of the countries’ mutual interests and not only because of the suit against the Bulgarian medics in Tripoly. Commenting the presidential election results she said that what the Bulgarians want now is a real reconciliation among the political parties in the country. According to her unmotivated changes in Bulgarian diplomacy are not to be expected.
