Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Solomon Passy awarded prominent archeologist Dr. Georgi Kitov with the Gold Honorary Badge of Foreign Ministry.
Minister Passy visited the Bulgarian Valley of Kings near the Shipka Peak, southern Bulgaria, where several sensational archaeological discoveries have been made over the last couple of months.
Kitov, known as the Bulgarian Indiana Jones, received the award for his contribution to the Bulgarian history and archeology. Passy pointed out that the findings of Kitov and his team will have a positive effect for Bulgaria's tourism industry.
A huge Thracian tomb with intact gold treasure inside was revealed by Dr Kitov beneath the Golyamata Kosmatka on Monday night. Earlier at the same site his team unearthed an exquisitely crafted bronze head believed to depict a Thracian ruler. In end August a unique gold-lump-made mask probably imaging one of mightiest Thracian rulers was unearthed from beneath the Svetitsata mound.
