Ukraine' Green Party, environmental experts and Greenpeace activists have spoken against the transits of nuclear waste from the Kuzlodui nuclear power plant in Bulgaria to Russia. They plan to organize actions of protest at Izmail, Odessa region.
The demonstrations against the nuclear transits will be held all around the town and near the river port on the Danube, which the Ukrainian greens believe to be the starting point of the transit routes.
The Green Party has deputies in the Ukrainian Supreme Rada, or parliament. It insists that the 1997 agreement on the transits of nuclear waste from Kozlodui to Russia be annulled. The document was signed by Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria, and Moldova.
The green activists say two containers with waster have already been delivered to Russia via Ukraine and a third container may be shipped from Bulgaria soon. They say, however, the transportation route is not known.
